The Animal and Plant Health Centre (APHC) of the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore is located in the Agri-Bio Park in the northwest of Singapore. It carries out laboratory diagnostic support for national surveillance and monitoring programmes to prevent the establishment of important animal and plant diseases in Singapore. The Centre also provides animal and plant health diagnostic services to the public.
APHC's well-equipped facilities include an administration cum laboratory building and an Animal Biosafety Level 3 disease containment annex to handle highly infectious and exotic veterinary pathogens, some of which may be transmissible to humans. A plant containment facility processes foreign plant and soil samples under biosecure conditions to isolate and work with exotic plant pests and plant quarantine diseases. We also maintain a flock of Specific-Pathogen-Free (SPF) chickens for laboratory diagnostic use. Such advanced infrastructure of the APHC enables AVA to maintain high animal and plant health standards for Singapore.
