The Accredited Ornamental Fish Exporter Scheme (AOFES) was implemented in 1983 as a quality assurance programme to allow AVA to issue health certificates to licensed ornamental fish exporters, based on good management practice such as maintenance of high standard of hygiene and sanitation in exporters’ premises, and adherence to code of practice and operation guidelines for the accreditation scheme. The AVA monitors these premises through a monthly surveillance programme and sampling for fish diseases.
The AOFES is open to all licensed exporters for ornamental fish but admission into the scheme is subject to application approval. Prior to membership approval, the premises is subject to initial screening by AVA, including inspection of the premises and its facilities, fish sampling for laboratory examination and checking of the record of fish sales maintained by the company. The premises must not have any history of fish disease occurrences or of any gross mortality in the fish stocks during the one-month period preceding the date of the application.
1. Ornamental fish licensed exporters who have been operating at their premises for at least 3 months and have a good track record may apply to AVA for admission into the AOFES.
2. The ornamental fish licensed exporters must agree to abide by all the terms and conditions of the AOFES.
3. There must be no major fish diseases occurrences or gross mortality of the fish stocks in the premises one month preceding the date of application.
4. The layout of the floor plan of the premises must comply with the guidelines as set out in the terms and conditions of the AOFES.
5. The application will only be considered after the premises have passed inspection carried out by AVA officers and the fish samples submitted for laboratory examinations showed negative results for the various tests.
