Career opportunities for degree holders

As a degree holder in AVA, you may be appointed as an officer in one of the following graduate schemes:

Your monthly gross salary will commensurate with your educational qualifications and working experience. Additional increments may be given for full-time NS and relevant work experience.

You should also have good communication and PC skills, be creative and innovative and be able to work independently.

Management Executive (Science-based)

Depending on your training, qualifications and experience, you may be deployed to one or more of the following areas of work. Your starting gross monthly salary will depend on your qualifications (Pass Degree to Good Honours Degree) ranging from $2,350 to $3,577.

  • Ensuring the wholesomeness and safety of food
  • Diagnosis, prevention and control of animal and plant diseases
  • Development of high-tech, intensive farming systems and technology
  • Develop and implement animal welfare programmes
  • Promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership through public education programmes
  • Facilitation of trade and health certification for primary produce
  • Research and development activities relating to fish quality, vegetable post-harvest technology, crop variety and marine aquaculture and technology transfer to the relevant industry.
Requirements:
  • A degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine registrable with the  Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Bachelor Degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Animal Science, Applied Microbiology, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Science, Food Technology, Fisheries, Horticulture, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Plant Science, Soil Science or Zoology.
Management Executive (Generalist)

As a Management Executive, you are a generalist and should be versatile enough to handle a wide variety of jobs. Depending on your training, qualifications and experience, you may be posted to one of the following areas of work and your starting gross monthly salary will depend on your qualifications (Pass Degree to Good Honours Degree) ranging from $2,350  to $2,800.
  • Corporate Services - General Administration, Office Management, Legal Matters, Corporate Development, Financial Administration, Management Reporting, Procurement, Information Systems Policy and Planning, Application Development and Support, Computer Infrastructure and Security
  • Policy and Corporate Communications - Policy Review, Corporate Planning, Corporate Communications, Data Administration and International Matters
  • Human Resource - Human Resource Planning and Management, Training and Development, Scholarships Management, Bond Administration, People Developer Standard, Industrial Relations, Staff Welfare, Work-Life Balance and Internal Communications
  • Audit - Internal Auditing and Providing advice to management on the adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal controls
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor Degree from a recognised University.

 

 

Career opportunities for diploma holders

As a diploma holder in AVA, you may be appointed as an Agri-Food and Veterinary Officer (Technical) Grade VI. Your monthly gross salary will commensurate with your educational qualifications and working experience. Additional increments may be given for full-time NS and relevant work experience.  Your starting gross monthly salary ranging from $1,750 to $2,540.

Agri-Food and Veterinary Officer (Technical) Grade VI

As an Agri-Food and Veterinary Officer (Technical) Grade VI, you will assist the organisation in realising its goals as the national food, animal and plant health authority. Depending on your training, qualifications and experience, you may be deployed to one or more of the following areas of work:

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the Agrotechnology Parks and farms, providing extension and advisory services to farmers
  • Inspection of food animals, abattoirs/poultry slaughter facilities and meat processing plants and food factories
  • Assist in research programmes, licensing and enforcing rules and regulations, collection and compiling data and statistics of plants, animals and fish
    Conduct laboratory tests in the fields of animal health, plant health or post-harvest technology
  • Assist in animal welfare and control work
  • Assist in the management of information and systems (IT matters)
Requirements:

You should possess one of the following qualifications:
  • A recognised Polytechnic Diploma in a field acceptable to AVA e.g. Biotechnology, Chemical Process Technology, Food Technology, Nematology, Plant Pathology, Computer Science, etc
  • C6 for English Language obtained at 'O' Levels; or a pass in the English Language proficiency course in the Polytechnics.
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of computers is essential
  • Creative, possess initiative and able to work independently
 



Career opportunities for GCE 'A', 'O' or 'N' levels holders

As a GCE 'A', 'O' or 'N' level holder, you may be appointed as an officer in one of the following schemes:

Your monthly gross salary will commensurate with your educational qualifications and working experience. Additional increments may be given for full-time NS and relevant work experience.

You should have good communication and PC skills, are creative, innovative and be able to work independently.

Corporate Support Officer Grade V

You will be performing a variety of administrative duties to assist management in their tasks, e.g. the drafting of letters and reports; handling of financial, personnel and store matters; attending to general public enquiries and compilation of statistics, etc. Your specific duties will depend on the department you are attached to.  Your starting gross monthly salary will depend on your qualifications ('N' Level to 'A' Levels) and ranging from $1,061 to $1,641.

Requirements :

You should possess one of the following qualifications:
  • At least 2 GCE 'A' Level passes
  • At least 3 GCE 'O' Level passes including English or Mathematics
  • Certificate in Office Skills
  • 3 GCE 'N' Level passes including P3 or better in English and Mathematics
Agri-Food and Veterinary Officer (Technical) Grade VIII

Depending on your training, you may be deployed to one or more of the following areas of work.  Your starting gross monthly  salary will depend on your qualifications ('O' Levels to 'A' Levels and NTC) ranging from $1,110 to $2,140.

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the Agrotechnology Parks and farms, providing extension and advisory services to farmers
  • Assist in the inspection of food animals, abattoirs/poultry slaughter facilities and meat processing plants and food factories
  • Assist in research programmes, licensing and enforcing rules and regulations, collection and compiling data and statistics of plants, animals and fish

Requirements:

You should possess one of the following qualifications:
  • GCE 'A' Level or Higher School Certificate (preferably with a pass at Principal Level in one Science Subject) 
  • 3 GCE 'O' Level passes or the School Certificate (with at least one Science or Maths subject)
  • NTC 2 in Agrotechnology Operations
 

Remuneration

Our salary is competitive. Officers will be offered salaries that commensurate with their qualifications and years of relevant working experience.
