Eggs refer to fresh table eggs (Hen eggs).
As part of AVA's integrated food safety system, we regulate the import of eggs to ensure that they are safe to eat.
The import of table eggs is regulated under the Animals and Birds Act and its subsidiary legislations. Imports must meet the following requirements:
- Traders are required to apply for a Unique Entity Number from Singapore Customs and a AVA Registration to Import Domestic Eggs, Table Eggs, Sheeps and Goats for Consumption. For online application of the registration, please click here.
- Eggs may only be imported from approved sources. For the list of approved countries and farms, please contact AVA.
- Each consignment must be derived from a single farm only.
- Egg imports must comply with AVA's Veterinary Conditions For the Importation of Table Eggs. Please select below for the list of conditions:
- Each consignment must also be accompanied by a Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the veterinary authority of the exporting country. The Veterinary Health Certificate must be dated within 7 days of import.
- Each consignment must be accompanied by an import licence issued by AVA. For the procedures for application for an AVA import licence, click here.
- Upon import, the eggs will be subjected to inspection by AVA. Sampling for laboratory analysis may be required.
The import procedures are as follows:
- The applicant must obtain Health Certificate from veterinary authority of the exporting country. Supporting documents such as bills of lading, airway bills and invoices must also be provided.
- The applicant must apply for an AVA import permit by declaring the import through TradeNet. For the product codes for the declaration, click here.
- The application will be routed to AVA for processing. Upon approval, the import permit for the consignment is incorporated into the Cargo Clearance Permit (CCP) to be printed at the applicant's terminal.
- For import by road, the consignment of eggs can only be imported according to the operation hours given in AVA's supplementary conditions. For import by air or sea, the applicant must contact AVA at Tel: 65457522 or 62270670, one day before the arrival of the consignment, to arrange for AVA to inspect the consignment.
- The applicant must present the CCP incorporating AVA's import permit, veterinary health certificate and the imported eggs for AVA's inspection.
- AVA may collect samples for laboratory analysis.
The fee payable for the import of table eggs is S$62 per consignment. Payment will be deducted through the applicant's GIRO account (for a GIRO application form click here).
