Post-Harvest Technology for Vegetables

AVA provides technical expertise in the areas of post-harvest handling, packaging and determination of quality of vegetables. AVA has been largely active in the following areas:
  • Improving the quality and extending the shelf life of vegetables in Singapore
  • Increasing awareness of good quality vegetables and proper handling practices
  • Strengthening the network of vegetable farmers, processors, traders and retailers

Research and development


The AVA carries out R&D in vegetable post-harvest technology. Some of the areas of research include:
  • Establishment of quality parameters for vegetables
  • Packaging and shelf-life extension of vegetables
  • Modified atmosphere packaging of vegetables
AVA conducts various types of training courses and seminars in Vegetable Post-Harvest Technology including:
  • Training Courses in Vegetable Post-harvest Technology

Transfer of technology


Seminars on vegetable post-harvest technology are conducted for the local vegetable industry so as to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

AVA also conducts courses on vegetable post-harvest technology for other countries so as to transfer technology, share information and knowledge as well as establish valuable networks with the technical institutions and personnel in other countries.
