Food Control Department Transfers to Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority
 
The Food Control Department (FCD) of the Ministry of the Environment (ENV) will be transferred to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority ( AVA ) with effect from 1 July 2002.

With the transfer, AVA will regulate the safety of all imported or locally produced food until just before it hits the retail market. AVA will be responsible for setting and enforcing food safety standards as well as overseeing food labelling.

AVA's expertise in accrediting food sources, backed by its up-to-date diagnostic capabilities, will ensure that food arriving at the retail end is safe and wholesome.
