Media Update on Vegetable Supply Situation in Singapore

1         Singapore’s supply of vegetables remained normal. Import of vegetables from Malaysia during the weekends is usually below weekday levels. From 3 pm yesterday to 3 pm today, 409 tonnes of fresh vegetables were imported from Malaysia. This is 30 % higher than the usual weekend levels of imports from Malaysia before the closure of Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre. (Normally, the amount of vegetables imported during the weekends is about two-thirds of the weekday levels). There were 165 approved suppliers of Malaysian vegetables to Singapore.

2         Of the 24 wet markets surveyed by AVA this morning, more than 80% of vegetable stalls in these markets were in operation, selling a wide variety of vegetables.

3         Active trading of vegetables continued to take place at the secondary distribution sites at Toa Payoh and Eunos. Last night, 23 stalls were operating at Toa Payoh, and 8 stalls were operating at Eunos.
