Farms

Overview

The Good Aquaculture Practices for Fish Farming (GAP-FF) is a set of guidelines to help local fish farms improve in key areas such as farm infrastructure management, farm husbandry, fish health management, and farm environment management. These guidelines are developed with reference to internationally recognised standards and adapted to ensure they are relevant to the local farming industry.

GAP-FF is a voluntary scheme. Local farms can request to be certified for the implementation of GAP-FF to which farm audits will be carried out to ensure that farms comply with the requirements of the certification.

Certification Mark

Certified fish farms are awarded with a certification mark which can be used to distinguish their produce from others in the market. The aim is to raise awareness of local fish farms among consumers, as well as to provide assurance to both retailers and consumers by setting the benchmark for the production of safe and quality fish.

3-Step Assessment for the Certification Process

Step 1: Pre-audit assessment

(Only for new applicants)

This is a paper assessment by AVA where farms will be evaluated on:

  • Type of feed used
  • Details of chemotherapeutants used

Farms which are renewing their certification only need to re-submit the "Application Form for GAP-FF Certification" to update AVA of any changes within 3 months before the expiry date of the certificate.

Step 2: Farm audit assessment

This includes a site visit for examination of records to ensure these items are in accordance to the GAP-FF guidelines:

  • Farm records and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Farm structure and maintenance
  • Farm management
  • Farming and packaging practices (feed management, use of chemotherapeutants, harvesting and packaging)
  • Fish health management
